National Alliance for Care at Home Congratulates Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. on Confirmation as Secretary of Health and Human Services
(Alexandria, VA and Washington, DC) – The National Alliance for Care at Home (the Alliance), the leading advocate for the care at home community of providers and the patients and families they serve, congratulates Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. on his confirmation as the 26th U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS).
“We look forward to working with Secretary Kennedy and HHS to expand access to high quality healthcare at home for the millions of Americans who need it,” said Alliance CEO Dr. Steve Landers. “Care in the home is essential for addressing the challenges of an aging population and the epidemic of chronic disease. It’s the overwhelming preference of Americans – not only for recovery and long-term care but also for how they wish to spend their final days. Expanding access to home health and hospice care isn’t just about patient choice – it reduces unnecessary hospitalizations and institutional care, offering high quality, cost-effective solutions.”
The Alliance represents over 10,000 providers across the nation delivering care to four million patients. These providers represent a workforce of one million professionals, including nurses, therapists, and aides, who provide high-quality care at home.
Key issues facing the care at home community include expanding access to hospice, home health, personal care, and an array of home-based services for seniors and individuals with chronic conditions; ensuring fair and sustainable Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement; protecting patient choice and independence; promoting and protecting the integrity and dignity of the home as the central place for American’s to receive their health care and addressing workforce shortages to meet growing demand.
Secretary Kennedy has long emphasized the importance of patient-centered care and tackling chronic illness through innovative, community-based solutions. Members of the Alliance strive to meet people where they’re at – whether at home for post-acute care or in their final stages of life. Our members work hard every day to help Americans receive the care they need in their homes and communities through interdisciplinary teams that collaborate on skilled nursing needs, physical therapy and rehabilitation, nutrition, assistance with activities of daily living, palliative and end-of-life hospice care, while finding innovative ways to meet the challenges of today’s health care system.
The Alliance looks forward to working with Secretary Kennedy and HHS to advance policies that strengthen care coordination, expand the use of telehealth and home-based services, and ensure that Americans have access to high-quality, cost-effective care at home.
