Hurricane Helene
When Hurricane Helene impacted communities across the Carolinas, urgent needs emerged for patients, families, and providers within the home and hospice care network.
Through the Carolinas Foundation for Hospice & Home Care, disaster relief efforts mobilized quickly to provide meaningful support when it mattered most.
More than $117,000 was mobilized to assist those affected, allowing the Foundation to distribute small grants ranging from $100 to $1,000 directly to individuals and families in need. In total, approximately 370 recipients across the Carolinas received assistance.
These funds helped ease immediate financial burdens and brought relief to those navigating the challenges of disaster recovery.
“We were able to provide small grants of $100–$1,000 to those in need… reaching around 370 recipients in the Carolinas.”
“It was wonderful to be able to help so many people in our industry.”
For leaders like Judy Penn, Chief Operating & Financial Officer, the effort underscored the power of collaboration across the hospice and home care community and the lasting impact of timely, compassionate support.
Hurricane Helene
In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, support from the Foundation made it possible for AMOREM to continue showing up—for patients, families, and the caregivers who serve them. This partnership helped provide critical resources, from clean water to emergency home repairs and generators, ensuring that care remained uninterrupted and compassionate. Because when caregivers are supported, entire communities can begin to heal.
Arkansas Tornadoes
When devastating tornadoes struck Arkansas in 2023, hospice caregivers found themselves facing unimaginable personal loss while continuing to care for others. Through support from the Workforce Emergency program, Arkansas Hospice was able to provide emergency assistance to employees displaced from their homes, struggling with damaged vehicles, lost food, and disrupted lives. From hotel stays and groceries to clothing and recovery support, these funds helped ensure that the caregivers who compassionately serve their community were not left to face the storm’s aftermath alone.
Hurricane Ian
In the aftermath of Hurricane Ian, Empath Health caregivers continued serving patients and families while many faced devastating losses of their own. With support from the Workforce Emergency program, emergency assistance helped provide temporary housing, food, gas cards, and essential supplies to more than 110 affected employees. This support ensured that the caregivers who dedicate their lives to compassionate care received the help and stability they needed during one of Florida’s most difficult moments.
